What is a Cross-Pressured?

Your profile doesn't fit any coalition's template. You're part of the group both parties are fighting over.

2 of the 9 people who have taken the poll so far land here.

Cross-Pressured is not a position on the axes; it is the name for a profile that sits far from every coalition's template. Someone who wants a bigger safety net and tougher sentencing, or colorblind rules and open trade and a rigged-system view, has no party written for them. Both parties are competing for exactly these people, which is why we name the group with respect rather than treat it as noise.

How the name is assigned

The poll asks 36 scored questions, six per axis, each a choice between two statements written by someone who holds that view. Your answers place you on each axis, and the name is the template your profile matches most closely. A profile that matches none of them closely enough is Cross-Pressured. Names are hypotheses until the data confirms them; the methodology page says how we test them.
